Still sounds great. This was one of the first jazz albums I ever heard. Rock 'N Roll/Rhythm and Blues was all I had heard up to that time so this was a real hit with those of us who were growing up to romance and longer more complex musical offerings. I still love it.
This is the recording I had on LP 40 or more years ago, but lost along the way. It's justas good as I rememeber, particularly "Poinciana." Highly recommended for anyone of any age.
4 1/2For 50's jazz this live album holds up amazingly well, with Jamal's understated pianistic vision and some excellent trio work seeping through nearly all the cracks of good-time veneer. I have grown numb to so much material surrounding this sound and era, and here proves a rare opposite.
Jazz or rock'n'roll didn't make it for me. I was told that I had heard it many times before but never showed any interest. Well, my family played all types of music and one of those types in addition to classical was jazz. It was back in '58 and I was 10 years old. I've been an inveterate Jazz Head ever since. I got up and asked who got the new album.
I didn't even recall hearing it before.
I was a hard case aficionado of Bach, Rachmaninoff and Mozart and I wasn't going for this "travesty" music.
I guess my dislike was overcome by sleep or waking or.
I was a classical music type and all other music didn't cut it for me.
I was amazed when they told me this but from then on I wore out the record playing it over and over again until it started to skip.
Well, one morning as I awoke Poinciana was playing on the Hi-Fi.
I was completely overtaken by the music.
To this day it is one of my favorite albums.
Also my CD doesn't skip.
This CD has one of my favorite pieces from the 1950's, Poinciana. It's just as delightful now as it was then, & I am delighted to have this item back in my collection of music.
